About Denny Ransom

Carlisle, Iowa

Denny Ransom is an Iowa native bent on pursuing trophy-class fish from his kayak. He targets a wide variety of species but has a particular obsession with flathead catfish.

He dabbles in tournament fishing for the sport and camaraderie, but his true passion lies in road-tripping to new locations, bushwhacking to the river’s edge, and paddling in to a sandbar camp. It’s all part of his pursuit to locate and catch remote river monsters.

Denny is co-founder of the Central Iowa Kayak Anglers, and an active member of the Iowa Paddlers Armada, a loose collection of plastic pirates whose goal is to float every river the state of Iowa has to offer. He currently maintains silver status in the Iowa DNR Master Angler program and is just two species from gold level — all kayak fish from public water.

When he’s not out on some paddle adventure chasing his prey, Denny enjoys sharing his knowledge, experiences and love of the sport with others. He regularly gives presentations at seminars and expos, and he maintains the ‘Tactical Kayak Angler’ YouTube channel which, along with his other social media accounts, is devoted to all things adventure and kayak angling.
